1. Covering power-When an object is coated with some kind of paint, paint pigments can cover the surface of the object. 

Opacity=pigment weight (g)/objects to be coated surface area (cm2)

2. The heat resistance of the pigment is that under certain processing temperature, the pigment does not significantly change the shade and color strength. When in the heating process, it will show the ability to resist color change.

Noteworthy:

1. When considering the high temperature, we also need to consider the heating time.

2. Need to consider the thermal stability of the colored resin.

3. Light performance is the change in color of the pigment under light irradiation, lightfastness assessment: best level: level 8, worst level: level 1.

4. Weatherability refers to all forms of climatic conditions, including ultraviolet visible light, moisture and temperature, color change of the pigment. The organic pigments were irradiate by light irradiation, it will cause pigment molecule conformational changes and other factors which affect the saturation , and even cause the pigment fade into a gray or white. 

   Weatherability assessment: level 5 is best level.

5. Resistance transference: Pigment migrates from plastic interior to the product surface or migrates to adjacent plastics and solvents. Assessment: level 5 means no transference, level 1 means severe migration.

Specific performance is as follows: 

① Frosting: During storage at room temperature, the pigment particles migrate from the plastic/paint system to the surface.

② Solvent exudation: Pigment component get into an adjacent solvent, the dyes and some organic pigments show this phenomenon.

③ Plastic/ plastic contact migration. 

6. Oil absorption refers to the sample under specified conditions pigment absorbed refined linseed oil, available volume/mass or mass/mass expressed.

7. Solvent resistance: When pigments and solvent contact, some certain pigments dissolved in the solvent will cause staining of the solvent. Means a pigment in solvent resistance against the solvent dissolving the solvent and cause staining performance.
